Pract 2.02

BBDC Class 2b

Pract 2.02 4 August 2018

Session 3: 11.30am-1.10pm

Finally managed to go for my Pract 2.02 cause there weren't any available slots on weekday nights. That was really irritating. I kept going in to check whether there were earlier slots and there weren't. Urgh. I think it's cause for 2.01 and 2.02, there are only 3 slots per session. When I took, all three times, 2.01 and 2.02 including this lesson, there were always only 3 people for the session. So, yes bobian had to take a weekend slot. I hope I haven't forgotten the "feel" of the bike since I hadn't ridden in about a week. :(

So, the person teaching us this session is Andre, lol, I saw his nametag. He is this really tall dude. So anyway, for today's lesson, we had to do lane changing, right turns and slope. I was quite fearful of the slope cause I knew I barely passed it for 2.01. So, he brought us around to do lane changing and right turning. I think it's the same thing, so turn right, remember to form to 2 rows if its only a right turn and you're turning from minor road to major road. Check the traffic from both sides, make sure its clear then check right blindspot, make sure left is clear again then proceed right, turning to the center of the lane. So, while turning right, you need to change to gear 2 and signal left to change lane. So, check mirror and left blindspot, make sure clear to change then slowly ease in to the lane. So, the lane changing is not abrupt, you just line the handlebar slightly to the left; don't turn the whole handlebar. \   <-- this is how you lane change, slowly ease into the traffic.. okay, I don't think you'll understand but aiyah nevermind.

Then after that, at bend. remember to check right blindspot, and signal right to lane change to the right. After the bend, check mirror check right blindspot then slowly ease into the lane. If there is a slow moving car, you can speed up and lane change. If the car is fast, then let it pass first. After that, you'll arrive at the number 12 junction to turn right. So, as it is major road to minor road, if there is no oncoming vehicle, you can proceed and do not need to stop. After that, continue to traffic light and go rounds again.

It was fairly easy actually, except that it was frustrating when there were alot of vehicles or like slow moving vehicles. Also, cause there were so many steps to do, it can get abit overwhelming at the start. However, as you keep practicing, you sort of get the hang of it.

So, after awhile of practice, at the juntion 12, he said that we will add slope to the routine, so after junction 12, need to signal left, check mirror, check left blindspot and change lane then at 28 check blindapot then turn at 29 then do slope like what we did at pract 2.01. After that, when come down slope, then lane change to the right and continue on with the routine. I was really glad with my slope cause I think after the instructor taught me properly the technique during my second 2.01 lesson, I managed to get the hang of it and could do it properly. YAYYYYYY!

It was really hot and when coming down the slope, he was asking me whether or not I was ok and whether I needed to drink water cause I think I seemed quite pale. I said that I was okay and that I will continue to practice. The second time I went on slope, he asked me again. LOL. I think I must have appeared quite dehydrated or something. I just said that it was really hot and he told me to tahan another 10 more minutes. Whew! I kinda wanted it to end faster cause it was really scorching.

So, at the end of the pract, he told me that I passed and that I could go on to 3.01! I was so super happy cause I thought that I needed to come back again for more practice to become better at it.

So anyway, the instructor was reallyyy nice and approachable. Chatted with him abit too like to share that there wasn't any slot during weekday nights. Then he said, yeah, there were limited slots uh. LOL So, yeah I really enjoyed the lesson today and I think it's largely because of the instructor. I guess, it really depends on the instructor sometimes. Hope I'll keep getting good instructors who are friendly, patient and explain the techniques well.

So, I booked my 3.01 tomorrow at 9.20am. Hope I can pass it in one attempt too! Kinda worried cause its plank and pylon. :(

  1. Hey there! I know it's been a while since you've posted this, but just wanna say that your notes and 'journals' of your class 2b journey has been really helpful!

I am currently on my 2b journey, and saw your blog since 2.01. It helps to know what to expect before a lesson, and to know that other people struggle with the same things I struggle with too! Thank you for writing down your journey :)
